CityLab

What is the CityLab?

In the permanent exhibition "Frankfurt Now!", an area of around 600 square meters is reserved for changing city lab activities in the museum. The CityLab has been in existence since 2010, where exhibitions and events on changing topics in the city are created together with Frankfurt residents. An overview of all previous CityLab projects can be found here

From 2010 to 2017, our exhibitions took place outside the museum, mostly in rather atypical museum locations, such as an outdoor pool, a disused car dealership or in the park. Since the reopening in fall 2017, we have been presenting the exhibitions in the "Frankfurt Now!" area. The CityLab is constantly changing: We are constantly working on new topics, with new questions, methods and people.

What's going on in the city lab

While one Stadtlabor exhibition is running, the next two are already being prepared behind the scenes. Here you can see which exhibition is currently on display and which is currently being worked on. It takes about a year from the idea to the finished exhibition. During this period, all stages of the exhibition conception take place in a series of workshops together with all Stadtlaborants. With the support of the museum team, everyone works on a contribution.
