Movement, mobility, traffic: what sounds technical at first glance is highly subjective and emotional, as it touches on key areas of our living and working conditions.
People spend a lifetime moving around the city, going through their personal mobility career, so to speak, from baby carriages to walking frames. However, space is limited and more and more people have to share it. In addition, these people have very different needs and expectations when it comes to transportation planning.
Using the commuter capital Frankfurt as an example, the special exhibition shows the rapid development of mobility culture from its beginnings in the 15th century to the present day; at the same time, it is dedicated to the cultural aspects of transportation. It is about no less a question than what kind of mobility we want to live with. What are the challenges facing urban society today? What visions are associated with them? Is Frankfurt on the right path - towards a sustainable, safe, healthy and at the same time vibrant city that meets the diverse mobility needs?
The exhibition relates the numerous facets of mobility to Frankfurt as a location. The focus is on people and their multidimensional interactions with urban architecture and urban society. This goes hand in hand with various forms of movement. The focus is on historical processes of change and transformation that still play a role today. The topics addressed in the exhibition invite visitors to link their personal experiences with social aspects and to develop and contribute their own points of view: What values, ideas or needs are associated with mobility? And - above all - what emotions? The exhibition's broad range of topics is complemented by live discussions with experts from the fields of transport policy, mobility and science.
