In summer 2027, the museum in Bolongaro Palace will open its doors. The west of Frankfurt will thereby gain its own museum, and the Frankfurt Museumsufer will be extended towards Höchst. At the same time, a diverse and participatory cultural centre is being created. As early as June 2026, the special exhibition in the CityLab "Höchst Tells Its Story! About the Museum in the Bolongaro Palace" ("Höchst erzählt! Über das Museum im Bolongaropalast") will offer a preview of the opening the following year.
The CityLab exhibition "Höchst Tells Its Story! About the Museum in the Bolongaro Palace" at the Historical Museum Frankfurt explores the process of creating the new museum and invites all interested visitors to take a first look at the museum taking shape: the significance of Höchst porcelain, the history of the Bolongaro family, and the diverse perspectives of the residents of Frankfurt's west are made tangible in an interactive and participatory way.
At the same time, questions of museum planning are addressed: How does a museum come into being that meets the demands of the 21st century? How can participatory approaches be implemented in the planning and design of a museum, and how do we stage them together? What challenges and opportunities arise when collaborating with various authors and cooperative partners? What role does a museum play today in social life?
The content was developed and shaped together with citizens, associations, and institutions from Frankfurt's west. The participatory process remains open, even during the run of the exhibition, as it is the wish of all involved to attract further partners from Frankfurt's west and beyond for the new cultural centre in Höchst. Visitors are also invited to actively participate and help shape the future museum.
Accompanying the exhibition is a diverse programme of events, developed and hosted together with partners in Höchst, with a particular focus on drawing people into Frankfurt's west. Workshops, panel discussions, guided tours, and exhibition formats at various locations in Höchst and Frankfurt's west will complete the annual programme and mark the lead-up to the grand opening of the Bolongaro Palace in summer 2027.
With the international symposium "How to do a Cultural Palace? Reflections, Practice, and Vision" in September 2026, the Historical Museum also invites discussion on how the Bolongaro Palace can function as a democratic space.
