Höchst tells its story! The museum in Bolongaro Palace
June 2026 - March 2027
The museum in Bolongaro Palace will open its doors in the summer of 2027. This will give western Frankfurt its own museum and extend Frankfurt's Museum Embankment towards Höchst. At the same time, a diverse and participatory cultural center will be created. As early as June 2026, the special exhibition in the city lab “Höchst erzählt! Das Museum im Bolongaropalast” (Höchst tells its story! The Museum in the Bolongaro Palace) will give a preview of the opening the following year.
This Bolongaro city lab at the Frankfurt Historical Museum focuses on the development process of the new museum and invites all interested parties to take a first look at the museum under construction. The significance of Höchst porcelain, the history of the Bolongaro family, and a cultural-historical examination of today's Frankfurt district are told by the residents of Höchst themselves. Their historical narratives about Höchst and their current perspectives from the west of Frankfurt are as diverse as the residents themselves.
At the same time, questions of museum planning are addressed: How do you create a museum that meets the requirements of the 21st century? How can participatory approaches be implemented in the planning and design of a museum, and how do we stage them together? What challenges and opportunities arise when working with different authors and collaboration partners? What role does a museum play in social interaction today?
The participatory process remains open, even during the exhibition period, as it is the wish of all those involved to attract further partners in western Frankfurt and beyond for the new cultural center in Höchst. In a district where complex issues accompany coexistence, it is extremely important to work together on heritage and shaping a shared future.
The exhibition is accompanied by a diverse supporting program developed and organized with partners in Höchst, which invites visitors to explore western Frankfurt in particular. Workshops, discussion panels, guided tours, and exhibition formats at various locations in Höchst and western Frankfurt round out the annual program and serve as a prelude to the grand opening of the Bolongaropalast in the summer of 2027.
