Against! For? – Revolution. Power. History.

23.10.2018 — 22.3.2020
The new exibition of the Young Museum, which will be shown from October 23 to March 22, 2020, deals with revolutions and protest movements, with the indignation over injustive and the revolt against paternalism. The opening of the exhibition will take place on October 21.
Equipped with a tablet as navigator, a journey leads through four historical rooms. The events leading up to the election to the National assembly in 1848, the revolution at the end of World War I in November 1918, the dispute over the construction of Runway 18 West in 1980 and the Occupy Camp in front of the European Central Bank 2011/12 come to light and become present. For the selected revolutions and protest movements, the Young Museum focuses on Frankfurt, Animations provide an exciting introduction to the respective topic, while tasks and games encourage visitors to participate. Significant original objects help to master the various tasks: these include graphics and flyers, a ballot box from 1848, cockades and photographs. With such objects, the course, goals and outcome of these historical revolutionary and protest movements are conveyed. In this way, young visitors in particular experience the exhibition: everyone plays a leading role – their own point of view, communication and commitment are called for!
The Young Museum, opened in 1972, is the oldest children's museum in Europe and was established as part of the city history museum. This was done against the background and with the spirit of social upheaval resulting from the 1968s. The Young Museum was and is an important part of the museum's idea of using its possibilities and competencies to work for a democratic society. Children and young people are given their own cultural place in the HMF as visitors. For more than 45 years, the Young Museum has conceived and presented exhibitions that are specially designed for the target group of children and young people.
