Breakdowns, catastrophes and apocalypses. Drawings by Kurt Wölbing, 1967-1983

7.6.2018 until 30.9.2018
13th collector

Energetic and cartoonish, Kurt Wölbing (1910-1990) draws his obersvations and experiences: a world in chaos, unjust, often failed politics. With colored pencil and felt-tip pen, he creates threatening universes on carboard, in which man alone cannot stand up to nature and perishes in the masses. His biography, from captain in the merchant navy through the difficult years of a refugee family to air traffic control advisor at Frankfurt Airport from 1956, contributes to the creation of the surreal pcitorial worlds. Wölbing comments with irony and wit on developments in the world of work, questions of environmantal protection, and major social events during the Cold War. His place of residence, Frankfurt, often provided the stage for this. The HMF presents the estate of Kurt Wölbing in the 13th Collector's Room.
